Flags & flagpoles

Flag accessories

Without the right base or holder, your flag leans, or does not stand at all. Accessories are rarely what people think of when ordering — which is exactly why they call us the day before.

What flag accessories cover

Flag accessories are everything around the fabric: the pole it hangs from, the base or stand that keeps it upright, the wall bracket that puts it on a building, and the small parts such as snap hooks, rope toggles and tension springs. It is the least visible part of a flag installation and at the same time the part that causes problems in practice.

Search for flag base, flag stand, flagstaff, pole holder or wall bracket and you land in the same family. The names vary by region and by supplier; the function does not.

Wall brackets

A wall bracket is fixed to a wall or a façade panel and takes one, two or three poles. The angle determines the effect: a 45 degree bracket lets the flag hang out at an angle and is the classic choice for town halls and hotels, while a 90 degree bracket sets the flag square to the façade and stands out more to passing traffic.

The material is usually coated steel or stainless steel. Stainless steel is the logical choice on the coast, in industrial settings and anywhere the bracket is hard to reach for maintenance.

Bases and stands for indoors

Indoor flags stand on a base: a heavy foot that holds the pole upright without anchoring. Lacquered wood suits council chambers, reception rooms and ceremonies; steel is plainer and works better on exhibition stands and in corporate receptions. Weight is what counts. A base that is too light for its pole tips at the slightest contact, and that happens precisely when there are people around.

Bases for outdoors

For temporary outdoor set-ups there are portable bases: cross bases, ground spikes and fillable bases. A base filled with water or sand keeps a flag stable on hard standing where drilling is not allowed, and can be emptied and stacked afterwards. On grass a ground spike is quicker and more discreet.

Flag poles

Poles come in wood and in aluminium. Wood looks warmer and is often chosen for indoor and ceremonial use; aluminium is lighter, does not rust and is the practical choice for wall brackets that stay outside all year. The length of the pole also determines which flag size still looks right: a flag too large for a short pole will trail and tear along the bottom edge.

Why the price varies

Accessories look straightforward, but the price depends on a few choices you make up front. Material is the biggest factor: stainless steel costs more than coated steel, but lasts far longer in an aggressive environment. Then there is weight, since a heavy base simply contains more material, and the number of flags per bracket. Finally it matters whether we only supply or also install: drilling into a historic façade or working at height is different work from setting a base down in a hall.

Where it usually goes wrong

Three things come back time and again. The spacing of the toggles on the fabric does not match the hooks on the pole, so the flag hangs crooked. The base is chosen too light for a windy location. And coated steel is installed somewhere nobody can reach with a ladder any more, so rust works away unnoticed for years.

What we do

We supply accessories that fit the poles, staffs and fabrics you already have, or we put the whole set together if you are starting from scratch. Tell us where the flags will hang, how many there are and what size the fabrics are, and we will tell you which accessories go with them. Installation can be included.

Frequently asked questions
