Voting booths for polling stations and ballots

Voting booths give voters what the secrecy of the ballot requires: a screened place where nobody can look on while they make their choice. It is a simple piece of furniture with a strict brief. It has to be up within minutes, stay stable all day through hundreds of turns, offer enough light and writing space, and then go back into storage compactly.

We supply voting booths to municipalities, provinces and public services organising elections, and to organisations holding an internal ballot such as works council elections or a general meeting. Usually the booth is part of a larger package with ballot boxes, signage and furniture, but you can also order or hire it separately.

Where they are used

  • Polling stations in schools, sports halls, parish halls and municipal buildings
  • Works council elections in companies and care institutions
  • Ballots at associations, health insurance funds, professional bodies and general meetings
  • Public consultations and participation projects where people want to fill in a form undisturbed

Versions

There are broadly three families. The folding version is the classic: a frame with side panels and a curtain or front panel, which opens and closes in a few movements and is stored flat. The modular version consists of separate panels that you link together, allowing you to place several booths side by side with shared partitions. That saves space in small rooms. The lightweight single-use version in cardboard or composite is intended for ballots you will not repeat.

You also choose the writing surface: fixed at working height, or lowered and with knee clearance. In practice it is best to provide both types at every location.

Material and finish

The load-bearing parts are usually in coated or anodised metal, the panels in plastic sheet, wood or fabric on a frame. Metal and plastic last longest through repeated assembly and dismantling and are easy to clean. Fabric panels are lighter and quieter, but more prone to staining. Cardboard is light and recyclable, but not intended to be kept for years.

Personalisation is possible: the municipal logo on the side panel, numbering per station, or a colour code per electoral college.

In practice: set-up, storage and accessibility

Test one unit in advance with the people who will be putting them up on the day. What looks simple in a brochure only really is once someone has done it before. Also allow space in each room for the curtain or door leaf to open fully without hitting a wall or a table.

For voters with a disability, one accessible booth per location is the absolute minimum: a passage width that admits a wheelchair, a writing surface at lowered height, no threshold or cable duct on the approach, and enough light inside. Put that booth in a logical, easily reachable spot.

Do not forget storage between two elections. Store the booths dry and on pallets, count them when putting them away rather than when unpacking, and note what is broken so you can top it up in good time. Skip that, and you will discover three days before the election that twelve booths are missing. And that is precisely the moment when every municipality is ordering at once, so reserve well in advance.

What determines the price?

The price of voting booths depends on the number of units, the chosen version, the material of frame and panels, the personalisation such as logo or numbering, and the choice between hire and purchase. On top of that come delivery per location or centrally, set-up by us if required, collection afterwards and storage. We calculate all of that against your specific quantities.

Frequently asked questions
